We are looking for a Laundry Assistant to work at The Duke Of York Military School, which is steeped in history first opening it’s doors in 1803, then in 1909 the school relocated to it’s present site in Dover, Kent. In 2010 we became the first full state boarding school opening our doors to any family wishing to choose this unique and iconic school. Dover – CT15 5EQ

Purpose of job:
To provide a laundry service to the school and it’s students and various departments. Work as part of a team within the laundry structure, reposting directly to the Laundry Supervisor
Duties & Responsibilities:
- The main purpose of the job is to support and assist the Laundry Supervisor in maintaining a high standard of laundry.
- Responsible for washing, drying and ironing or students clothing, bedding and other fabric washing on site.
- Wash students clothing taking care to separate colours & fabrics when necessary.
- Be aware of the companies’ policies/procedures in relation to Health & Safety and Prevention of infection in the laundry and COSHH.
- Follow guidance of the manufactures in the use and maintenance of equipment and the washing/cleaning of clothing.
- Ensure that access to the laundry is restricted to designated people, and maintains a safe laundry.
- Report any damaged laundry to the supervisor.
- Report any defects to the Laundry Supervisor
- Carries out stock takes when required.
- Driver the designated laundry vehicle if the appropriate documentation is held.
Customer Satisfaction
- To greet all customers in a polite and friendly manner at all times.
- Deal with individual customer requests / queries in a professional manner.
- Follow up any customer comments / complaints. Ensure that follow up action is taken by reporting to your line manager.
Flexibility / Initiative
- To assist with other tasks within the unit when necessary.
- To look at where you need to change your own activities to meet different circumstances within the business.
- To look out for and report to your line manager when you see ways to improve work activities and reduce costs.
Teamwork
- To be polite, friendly and pleasant to your colleagues.
- Be prepared to assist the rest of the team in a positive manner.
- To keep your colleagues informed as to the happenings within the unit and be prepared to attend Company briefing and training sessions.
Health, Safety & Hygiene
- To ensure that you meet the legal and Company requirements for fire, health & safety and health and hygiene.
- To report all maintenance requirements to your line manager.
- To report any hygiene or safety issues to your line manager immediately.
- To undertake any Health, Safety and Hygiene requirements within the unit.
Attendance
- To attend your rostered shifts.
- To ensure that you are of a clean and presentable appearance.
- To ensure that clean clothing is worn at the start of each shift.
- To follow the Absence Reporting Procedure when unable to attend any rostered shift.
- To ensure that you are on time for each shift.
Additional Duties
- To comply with any reasonable request from a member of the management team that may be required.
- To ensure compliance with the company’s policy on safer recruitment and safeguarding children and young adults at all times whilst at work.
