Enhancing the sixth-form experience and generating revenue – with a school café

Stowe School has transformed the daily lives of sixth formers by introducing a high-street-inspired school café. Working with our sister company, Benugo, we helped create a modern, relaxing space for refreshments and socialising.

Objectives

The main aim was to provide additional revenue opportunities for Stowe by establishing a profitable school café. Designed primarily for sixth-form students, parents and visitors, the new space would also foster a sense of community within the school.

Implementation

Stowe School worked with Benugo, a renowned British high-street café business, to bring a professional coffee shop to the Sixth Form Centre. With our support, they created the atmosphere of a vibrant, café-style workplace with a clean, contemporary aesthetic. The café offers a diverse menu, including award-winning coffee, speciality teas, flatbreads and homemade cakes, appealing to the varied tastes of students. Operating from 9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday, the café provides a convenient on-campus option. On Saturdays, it welcomes parents and families attending school matches. On Saturday evenings, it transforms into an event space, complete with bar service.

Results

The Benugo café has proved highly popular with the students, providing a lively space for socialising and strengthening the school community. It has received rave reviews from the sixth formers, who appreciate having a high-quality, high-street-style café on campus. It has also been a financial success, generating around £1,000 in sales a day. Coffee sales alone account for 33-35% of the sales mix, equating to around £350 each day.

“The sixth formers love it! They absolutely rave about it.”

Future plans

Looking ahead, Stowe School plans to open the café commercially. This will aim to bring in extra revenue by offering the space for external events and functions. This forward-thinking approach positions the café as a versatile asset, benefiting both the school and the wider community.
